Parents can balance work and life with the help of child care, also they can match needs of family and work. Ronda Kaysen agrees in her article “Co-Working Spaces Add a Perk: Child Care” when she writes, “ ‘Young parents want to strike that balance,’ she said. ‘They can still have their careers, but want to be able to see their children, too’ " (qtd. in Kaysen par. 17). There are many working parents, young working parents especially, that try to balance work life and still have time for their children. These parents that balance work life and home life rely on child care centers to take their children while they work. Joe Davidson, former assistant city editor at The Washington Post, quotes former president Obama in his article “A National Problem: Costly Child Care,” “In today's economy, when having both parents in the workforce is an economic necessity for many families, we need affordable, high-quality child care more than ever." (qtd. in Davidson par. 1). The United States needs affordable child care now because child care is the only way for working parents in the United States to support their families, and for parents to balance work life and home life.
Opposition The opposition suggests that working parents neglect their family and focuses on work more than the needs of their own family. One reason why moms stay home to take care of their children is the low wages and family responsibilities that they face more than men (Cohen par. 19). Cohen claims that, "Women's lower wages and family responsibilities have always batted them in and out of jobs -- and in and out of the labor force -- with much more frequency than men" (Cohen par. 19). Therefore, even though many mothers work, the mothers are forced to stay home with the children more often than the fathers. Elias elaborates, "About two-thirds of U.S. moms with preschool children are employed, and many still worry that not having a full-time parent at home will hurt their children" (Elias par. 1). Working parents often feel ashamed or guilty about not being able to spend a majority of their time with their children, but the parents understand that to provide for the children they need to keep their jobs.
